Tottenham Hotspur Vs. Stoke City: Match Report

Two sides with completely different football philosophies locked horns at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon. The Premier League encounter between Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City had a surprising amount of goals, considering Tottenham’s poor form of late, especially in front of goal.

Champions League villain, Peter Crouch soon became a hero of sorts with a brace of goals for the home side. His first goal was a typical Crouch goal, that being a header. Roman Pavlyuchenko crossed the ball into the Stoke penalty area, and Crouch headed home in the 10th minute. Pavlyuchenko was again the fulcrum of Tottenham’s second goal in the 18th minute when he laid off the ball for Luka Modric to drive home. Stoke replied soon after through former Tottenham and Peterborough man Matthew Etherington. In the 27th minute, Etherington went on a galloping run and tucked the ball away. Tottenham then replied through Crouch in the 34th minute when he headed home his second goal. Just before half-time, Kenwyne Jones' goal in the 41st minute gave the away side a glimmer of hope.

Neither side could find the net in the second half despite the goal fest in the first period. Tottenham Hotspur found their goal scoring touch here at White Hart Lane; they’ll be hoping to continue this goal scoring form in their next home encounter against Real Madrid.
