Tottenham Hotspur Allow Giovani Dos Santos To Join Mexico For Copa America 2011

Unlike Arsenal, who are a bunch of assholes, Tottenham Hotspur are allowing one of their players to go to Copa America 2011 with Mexico. While this may be because the Gunners actually have some plans for the future of Carlos Vela, I still had to get that dig in. Giovani dos Santos is currently playing (and starting!) in the Gold Cup (Copa Oro) with Mexico, and he was very good in El Tri's 5-0 thumping of El Salvador on Sunday. Despite the fact that they do not have to release him for Copa America duty, Spurs have decided to let him go.

The reason is obvious: Spurs want Gio in the shop window. His performances in La Liga and in a Mexico shirt probably have teams interested in his services, but almost certainly not at a price that will make Daniel Levy a profit. If Giovani plays in the Copa America and puts on a show, that might change. He certainly has a better chance of turning heads and driving up his price in the Copa America than he does playing preseason games for Spurs, so it's a smart move if the intent is to sell Gio for as much money as possible.

Personally, I think Gio has never been given a fair chance in our team. But, he doesn't fit the current system, he wasn't a Harry purchase, and the team wants to sell him. It's disappointing, but understandable.
