Let's assume the worst for a second. Let's say Luka is gone to Chelsea, for an exorbitant sum. It can't be less than exorbitant because I refuse to accept the possibility of Luka in a Chelsea shirt if it does not result in at least 45M in the transfer coffers. It can't happen, I'm plugging my ears, you can't tell me otherwise, please, please don't. Now what? Who are your ideal transfer targets?
For starters, this makes our long running dream of landing a real striker a distinct possibility. Llorente's a pretty realistic target if Daniel Levy is suddenly flush with Modric money. They'd still need to make a move for a playmaker, and honestly, I hadn't considered this a real possibility until recently, so I didn't bother to think about who might be on the market. I might let Liverpool come and get Lennon, if Adam Johnson might be pried from City's fingers. Another center defender could be brought in to shore up the defense. If nothing else, I think you'd have to keep Dos Santos and Krancjar in this situation, because you'll need a player who can create from nothing if Luka isn't around. Both those players have match-winner capabilities.
Basically, I'm just trying to talk myself into an optimistic vision of life after Luka. This is my first fanpost here, and while I'd love it if I had something more insightful to write, at the moment, I'm just asking for some cheering up. So let's hear it. How are Spurs going to build a shiny happy future without Luka Modric?
