Following this weekend's home loss to Wigan Athletic and Sandro's injury -- the severity of which is still unknown -- I felt like everyone needed a bit of a pick-me-up today. If you haven't been following along with Tottenham Hotspur's Under-21 Premier League side, they've been performing fantastically, and everyone should be optimistic about the possibility of some homegrown players cracking the first team in the coming years.
Spurs beat the Newcastle U-21s 6-0 over the weekend, sending them top of Group 2 in the Under-21 Premier League. Jon Obika scored twice, while Ryan Mason, Christian Ceballos, Dean Parrett and Alex Pritchard each netted goals. In an article at the official team site, coach Chris Ramsey had a lot of praise for the youngsters.
"We're delighted to have players like Ryan Mason and Andros Townsend with us, they've both been in the first team squad recently and their attitude when they play for the development squad is perfect, especially when we have younger players aspiring to do what they've done. Dean Parrett and Alex Pritchard were equally exceptional. We have a high standard at the club and the players are doing their best to impress. They are allowed to express themselves and some have broken into the first team - that's what we're here to do."
While the first team is in a bit of a treading water phase, trying not to drop too many points while waiting for key players to get healthy and adapting to a new manager, things are going as well as possible in other places at the club. While we might have plenty of legitimate gripes with Andre Villas-Boas' in-game decisions and the recent performances by the senior side, things are going well at the club as a whole. Be happy. We're awesome.
