Three Tottenham Hotspur Players Called Up To England Squad

Srdjan Stevanovic

Aaron Lennon, Kyle Walker, and Steven Caulker have been called into the England squad by manager Roy Hodgson.

England manager Roy Hodgson has named his squad for the national team's upcoming friendly against Sweden. The squad included a couple of surprises and three Tottenham Hotspur players. The player getting all the headlines right now is Jack Wilshire. The Arsenal player has just returned from a long-term injury and to be called back into the England squad already says something for his ability—or for the lack thereof in the England squad. I'm not sure which.

Three Tottenham Hotspur players—Aaron Lennon, Kyle Walker, and Steven Caulker—were named top the squad. Jermain Defoe was dropped from the team as Hodgson opted to include only three strikers in this squad. This is Caulker's second call to the English squad, he has, however, not yet been capped. The 21 year-old defender has started 10 matches for Spurs this season and is looking like he will play an important role for club and country for years to come.

Lennon has been in excellent form this season and if he plays against Sweden he will earn his 26th England cap. Walker made his first competitive international appearance in a World Cup Qualifier against San Marino earlier this year and will be looking to establish himself in Hodgson's squad.

Perhaps the most interesting call-up, Wilshire aside, is Leon Osman. The 31 year-old Everton midfielder has never been capped by England at any level, but has been excellent for the Toffees thus far this season. Not only would this be Osman's first cap, it's his first call-up period to the senior national team. Many have spoken out on Twitter about this call-up is well-deserved and given Osman's performances this season, it's hard to disagree.
