How are Tottenham considered in Turkey

To all my fellow Spurs fans

I am a lifelong spurs fan named after Martin Peters by my lifelong spurs fan father and have carried this on with my sons initials spelling T.O.T.

i am now working and living in Istanbul and have attended Besiktas games where the atmosphere is amazing (view it on YouTube) they have a natural affinity with spurs which was strange to hear at first but I have done a good job converting many turkish people I work with to follow spurs.

What has been surprising to me , as a result of wearing my LEDLEY king - Burger King logo - t- shirt is that the knowledge of this spurs legends and others is prevalent.

Without prompting people here rattled off the following names , David ginola , Ossie , gazza , Glenn huddle , chris waddle , LEDLEY king , Juergen klinsmann , Gary linker and then all the usual current names - bale , Defoe etc.

Despite all knowing the usual man utd success stories they love the way we play football and for a spurs fan abroad that is wonderful feeling - they love the way we play football - skill full and attacking.

one chap at work even knew our motto - I nearly cried !

i have taught them the meaning of COYS and they often put that at the bottom of their emails.

In terms of Turkish football I am surprised it isn't shown in the UK , whilst they may do poorly in the champions league they have more passionate fans than us and the 'welcome to hell' mentality is a misperception and the standard of their football is more similar to English football than the Spanish or Italian leagues.

I hope to give you more updates of the view from Istanbul on the mighty spurs !
