Interesting news out of Turkey, as Süper Lig team Trabzonspor claim Tottenham Hotspur are pursuing a transfer for striker Yilmaz. Trabzonspor president Sadri Sener listed Spurs among Fulham and Lazio as the teams pursuing Yilmaz, and claim to want a resolution to a move within a week.

Yilmaz, 26, is a number 9 forward who has shown an ability to play wide. After an inconsistent start to his career, the Turk has two consecutive phenomenal seasons, tallying 19 league goals in 2010-11 and 33 goals in this past season. Yilmaz has also started to emerge as a Turkish international, earning the starting striker position.

Yilmaz's recent quotes show a preference for a move to a large European club. His time at Trabzonspor seems to be coming to an amicable end as both club and player benefit from a potential move. Sky also claims that "his father has been quoted as suggesting that a move to England is his preference and claimed Manchester United, Arsenal and also West Ham are keen."

Yilmaz on paper fills Tottenham's striker needs perfectly. He has the prototypical size to be a target forward, has played alone for club and country, and has a prodigious scoring rate. At age 26, he seems to be entering the prime of his career. However, although the Turkish league ranks among the better second-tier competitions in Europe, it is to be seen whether Yilmaz could make the jump in quality to the Premiership.
