Yes, I know the formation is my namesake, so many of you won't take it seriously. But I think there is real data here to start lobbying for a 3-4-3. Walker's defensive performances have been less than desirable this season, and we've been talking about how JD looks for shots too often and Lennon doesn't look often enough. I think this formation solves those problems.
Caulker - Gallas (Kaboul) - Johnny Vertical
Lennon - Moose - Bale
Dempsey - Adebayor - JD
Further analysis after the jump.
The biggest exclusion I see from this lineup is definitely Benny, but after today's performance at Old Trafford, does anyone believe that Jan isn't better out wide? He linked up with Bale just as good as BAE does (if not better), and he had some monster tackles as well. I doubt we are going to play many teams who are going to have someone flying down the right flank better than Nani. Also, this gives us the flexibility to rotate more people in at that central defender's spot. Gallas has been absolutely massive for us this year, but does anyone actually think he's capable of playing 30+ games this year? I don't. Now we can slot him in if Younes needs some rest, and we have further cover with Daws as well. Up front, slotting Ade in (once healthy) will relieve some of the pressure on Dembele to be the sole distributor. Ade's presence alongside Dempsey will greatly increase our aerial presence in the attacking third and will give Lennon that many more targets. As we saw today, Sandro made some beautiful rotations when a defender made a run up, and he would still be in position to slot deep if he needed to. The on argument to this formation is that we are now playing all of our forwards, and we're totally screwed if someone gets hurt. To that I say we only really have 2.5 forwards to begin with, and we're always going to be playing with fire when it comes to depth at forward.
Anyway, what a beautiful day to be a Spurs fan. Looking forward to hearing what everyone thinks.
