Writers Prediction League: Manchester United vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Alex Livesey

The writers at Cartilage Free Captain predict the result for Tottenham Hotspur's match vs. Manchester United.

Mancunian. Today marks Tottenham Hotspur's second consecutive match against a side from Manchester. The previous match went poorly for Spurs, falling 6-0 in a blowout loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Failure was across the board that day, with defensive ineptitude, little midfield cohesion, and seemingly no ability to mount a consistent attack.

The other Manchester team arrives in mixed form. United is one point ahead of Spurs, residing in 8th place. The Red Devils started slow after a tough beginning schedule. United's form has improved, but has yet to string together the quantity of wins that can launch them into Champions League positioning. The offense has generally been strong, as the combo of Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney have combined for 13 league goals in just 12 matches. Defense has been a much greater problem for United. A lack of stability in midfield has taken possession away from United and put greater pressure onto their defense.

As for the Prediction League, MCofA's mathematical genius is drawing him closer to the lead. The rules remain the same in the Prediction League--one point for a correct prediction and a bonus point for getting the score correct. Here are the current standings:

Name Score
The Sleeper's Sleep 11
Mechanick 11
MCofA 10
Ed 9
Ashlock 9
Ryan 8
Kevin 8
Uncle Menno 7
Skipjack 7
Lennon's Eyebrow 6
Petrilli 6
The Roosevelts

5

This week's predictions:

Kevin: I kind of hate how both of these teams are playing right now. 2-1 Spurs, because the alternative is too depressing.

Mechanick: The defense rebounds some, but van Persie still gets his. 1-1 Draw

Ryan: Regina said she'll talk to Aaron. And now she is. How can Janis hate her? She's such a good... SLUT! 1-1 Draw.

The Roosevelts: The most gross word in the English language is moist. It's Lamela time. Spurs 2-0

Ashlock: The night is always darkest before the Fulham match. Or whatever it is that people say at times like this. 3-0 United.

Ed: 0-0 Draw

Lennon's Eyebrow: United is stupid. 2-0 Spurs.

Petrilli: 2-1 Spurs.

Uncle Menno: I already hate this match. 0-0 Draw.

MCofA: 1-0 Spurs. I have 1-0 and 1-1 equally likely (12% each), but have Spurs add favorites to win overall.

The Sleeper's Sleep: Down with David Moist. 2-1 Spurs.

Skipjack: 3-1 Spurs, cause Ed and Kevin don't deserve nice things.
