Is the England defender the best player on the North London side?
Looking at the Premier League table will show a decent start to the season for Spurs. Sitting Sixth in the league and only 3 points off the elusive Champions League spot. However if you follow Spurs closely you know the team has a serious problem to score goals, with a GD of -2. Spurs have a real lack of creativity and the latest game against Fulham was a perfect example. Midfielders and Wingers look content to pass the ball back and forth and not press forward into the box. Typically when the ball moves into the box its an ill-advised shot by the likes of Townsend or Paulihno. The lack of creativity is a huge reason the Spanish striker Soldado only has one goal from open play. Outside of Lennon only one player looks to press forward and create chances ever time he is on the ball; and he comes from the back.
Besides being one of the best fullbacks in the PL he is one of Spurs best attackers. Crossing the ball more times then anyone else and currently has an 84% passing accuracy. Walker is always looking to press the ball forward and whip the ball into the box. Very few times does the defender cut in and look to shoot. Walker also has the best pace on the team, beating defenders and getting back for clearances. Oh and if we have a free kick Walker is our best option over the ball. Be it a shot on goal or cross Walker is the only clear option. How many times has the opponent broke free this year down the sideline only to have Walker catch up and with his incredible pace? Yeah, count all the times you thought "Thank god for Walker on that one".
Im not saying he will be the best player going forward for Spurs. Or the best option to score. But can you really find a better all around player currently? One who has logged the minutes Walker has? Starting every game and has yet to be subbed. Outside of the free kick goal he hardly ever grabs headlines. However because the versatility of this modern day Fullback, he is Spurs most important player.
