Can Tottenham keep Gareth Bale?

It's hard to believe where Bale was a few years ago. Probably begging for a chance to start at left-back in your average Premier League game. Now, Tottenham could end up begging him to stay.

Like Ronaldo, he's an all round athlete. Combining the height and build of a long distance runner with the technique and directness of a world class winger. His consistency and work rate is admirable, and his long distance shots and drilled low crosses are dazzling.

In the last four games, the Welshman has scored all Tottenham's goals and they've all demonstrated his skill, pace and composure. They've also proven his hefty price tag is merited.

I'm sure any seasoned fan and long term season ticket holder would look to legends like David Ginola, Glenn Hoddle or Ricky Villa, but i'm not sure even they've seen a player like this.

Thanks to Levy's tough transfer and contract policy, i don't think Spurs will ever be put in a situation like Arsenal frequently are. They've lost many star players in cut-price deals due to their inability to tie players to long term contracts. Levy won't allow key players into their final two years, so they're given an ultimatum, sign or leave.

The question is, where could he go? It's very unlikely the chairman will sell to any English club, so that leaves Real Madrid. This "partnership" Spurs have with Real Madrid will undoubtedly drive the media to obsessive transfer gossip and probably inexplicable links, but it's probably not worth the paper it's written on.

I hope Tottenham can resist any temptations and Bale continues to shine under AVB, or else i'm sure every fan would be devastated. But, with such a tactically placed long term contract, it would take a staggering offer to prise their Welsh wizard from North London.
