Younes Kaboul Returns to Spurs Training

The French centerback, sidelined the entire season by knee surgery, is nearing his return to the pitch.

After a huge week of European football, Spurs may be nearing a boost from a French centerback. Younes Kaboul participated in training for the first time today after missing the entire season since an August knee surgery. Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas stated a timeline for Kaboul:

"Still, it's going to be his first training session since August, so we have to be very, very careful. Hopefully he will be able to play in two to three weeks."

It will be very interesting to see what sort of role Kaboul has to play the rest of the season. Kaboul, 27, was Spurs' top centerback in the 2011-12, playing well enough to be called into France's Euro 2012 side. However, Jan Vertonghen's arrival has been a boon to the centerbacks, as the likes of Michael Dawson, Steven Caulker, and William Gallas have competed to be his centerback partner.

Kaboul is arguably the most talented option at this point versus that trio. However, it would be tough to find a way for Vertonghen and Kaboul to build chemistry at this point of the season. It may be more likely then that Kaboul gets his chance to return in the round of 16 in the Europa League (presuming Spurs advance), allowing Kaboul a chance to play before returning to Premier League action.
