Tottenham Hotspur linked to Brazilian international, world champion midfielder

Seriously guys, the Club World Cup is serious business. Not really, but screw Chelsea.

Either the press is in "throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks" mode or Daniel Levy is. I'm guessing the former is more likely than the latter, but in any event, we've been linked to yet another central midfielder. First Fredy Guarin, then Radja Nainggolan, then Gareth Barry, and now Brazilian international Paulinho from reigning Club World Cup champions Corinthians.

If you're a fan of Paulinho, you'll be hoping that a large amount of smoke means fire. Reports about Spurs' interest in Paulinho currently appear in the Daily Mail, London Evening Standard, Sky Italy via Sambafoot and Metro. They're all citing ... Gianluca Di Marzio? Aww, dang it.

In case you haven't been following along recently, Di Marzio is the new "King of Saying Random Shit on Twitter and Hoping He's Proven Right." He used to have a rep as a guy who got some solid scoops on Serie A-related transfers, but we've gotten to a point where everything he says should be taken with a massive grain of salt.

The rumored fee for Paulinho is around £14m, though his buyout clause is a bit more than that. I'm a fan, but I don't think we should be spending that kind of money on a box-to-box midfielder when Moussa Dembele is better at being that than he is at being a deep-lying playmaker or attacking midfielder.

Both the potential validity of this rumor and my level of happiness if this transfer goes through at the rumored price are low. He's a good player who is absolutely worth an eight-figure transfer fee, but he's not what Spurs need.
