A couple observations on the Brazil match today:
- I have not seen Paulinho play (I missed the first match due to a family obligation and do not watch Brazilian football) but tonight he was largely absent. Huge goal, no doubt, but the commentators even mentioned that he was not up to par. I have heard lots of his quality and have no reason to doubt this. Perhaps his injury had something to do with this. Regardless it seemed that Brazil was playing into their huge names and that Luiz Gustavo, who was sitting deeper, was the main CM recycler. Lil' Paul seemed to be dragging markers to make space or getting forward for most of the game. He had fairly quick, simple distribution but his semi-assist was brilliant. Obviously this depends upon the team around him but with Oscar being the creator and L. Gus being the shield...this game did not show me where he fits at Spurs. Would love a more in-depth article discussing his skill set and how it fits with the rest of the midfield. The general consensus is that Sandro/Paul/Dembele would not play together terribly often and I am curious as to how next season will play out.
- Bernard, in his brief cameos, has been wonderful. Full of inventiveness and spark. Is he worth the £20 Million-ish buyout? He is young but he looks a brilliant young buy. Shakhtar or Chelsea...where does he end up? Chelsea could use some more creative attackers, right?
