According to Romanian outlet Pro Sport, Vlad Chiriches is going to be a Tottenham Hotspur player shortly. They say that Spurs will pay €8 million for the player, all up front. Previously, Spurs were offering slightly less and offering to pay in two installments.
Steaua Bucharest play a Champions League qualifier on Wednesday night, and apparently Chiriches has been left out of Steaua's squad for that game.
Also, Pro Sport claim that now Tottenham agreed to pay Steaua the money upfront, therefore Chiriches left out of tonight's game v Legia.— Călin Mateş (@CMatesUK) August 21, 2013
I did a sweep on Twitter and everyone who has tweeted a Steaua lineup so far has tweeted one without Chiriches. So, hey, there may be something to this.
Unfortunately, there is one line in that Pro Sport article that doesn't look great for us: "The transfer depends on Becali". That's Steaua owner Gigi Becali, a convicted criminal who changes his mind a lot. We don't have time to re-hash all of his issues and the battle over control of the club. All I can say is that, while Pro Sport has been on top of this transfer saga and seems reliable, this is far from over.
