Potential Tottenham Hotspur arrivals: 'Chicharito' Javier Hernandez

Dean Mouhtaropoulos

Yeah, I'm all-in on this. I don't care how dumb this rumor is. I don't care how unrealistic this is. CHICHARITO!

This post is part of a deadline morning series on potential Tottenham transfers. You can find all of the posts in the series right here, as well as the initial post explaining this series right here.

Tottenham Hotspur were vaguely linked to Javier Hernandez last week, so we're just going to roll with this. Sure, this falls under the category of 'hopeful' and maybe even 'clutching at straws', but I love Chicharito so you're going to need to get over it.

In the event that David Moyes wants to hold on to Wayne Rooney (or no one else wants to pay for Rooney), he can probably afford to part with someone. United has a million good up and coming young attackers and still technically has Federico Macheda on their books if they need an emergency striker. They're probably not going to miss Hernandez a ton.

Spurs are also likely to get a bid or two for Jermain Defoe on Monday and might be able to drive up the price. In the completely mythological event that Defoe can be sold for £10m and Hernandez is available for £15m, it's a no-brainer.

Quick bio: Javier Hernandez is a striker most noted for his pace and finishing instincts. He's a younger, more complete, more modern version of Jermain Defoe. He started his career at Chivas Guadalajara, who he signed with at just 11. He finally broke through in the 2009-10 season before signing for Manchester United. With the Red Devils, he has 50 goals in 117 appearances, many of them substitute appearances.

Age: 25

Likelihood he's transfered today: Low to moderate. Manchester United don't exactly need the money and can afford to have a very deep bench.

Potential suitors: Really anyone on earth that could use a striker. If he's actually available, it's likely that Spurs have plenty of competition. Hell, Major League Soccer might meet his asking price.

Price if he's sold: Around £15m. Perhaps up to £20m.

Are Spurs the front-runners?: In the event he's for sale, probably. It's possible Arsenal or Atletico Madrid could come in and gazump us.

The verdict - Could he be a Spurs player on September 3?: Could he? Yes. Will he be? Highly doubtful. But I hope it happens.
