Tom Carroll has reportedly been told that he can find a club to go on loan to this season in order to get first team experience and Sky Sports News says that Crystal Palace, Ajax and Watford are all in the mix to take the midfielder for the year. But it is an old friend who is in the pole position to take Tommy Boy in.
If Sky are to be believed, Queens Park Rangers have emerged as the frontrunner for Carroll's services, a move that would reunite Carroll with Harry Redknapp, who was the Tottenham manager when Carroll signed with the club's academy and who gave the midfielder his first team debut in 2010.
It would be nice to see Carroll in the Premier League with Crystal Palace, and a move to Ajax would certainly net him plenty of touches and experience in a title race, but QPR isn't a bad place for him either. He would automatically be the most likable central midfielder at the club, where Joey Barton and Karl Henry are the current starters, and with the number of matches in the Championship, as well as Carroll's quality, it's tough to imagine him not playing playing extensively at Loftus Road.
Ideally, Carroll would play at Spurs, but Andre Villas-Boas clearly doesn't think he is ready yet. Maybe a season away will allow him to come back next preseason and earn a spot. Wherever he goes, we will stand by him and his choice of headwear.
