Gylfi Sigurdsson heading to Sunderland?

Robert Cianflone

We have to admit, this would make a lot of sense for all parties.

We've been talking since the signing of Christian Eriksen was announced about the potential departure of Gylfi Sigurdsson, at least on loan for a season. Well, if the Daily Mail is to be believed, that could happen. Sunderland is doing some last-minute rearranging of furniture and seems to be interested in him.

Here's what Colin Young had to say on the Mail's transfer liveblog:

'As Stephane Sessegnon nears the exit door, Paolo Di Canio is looking to bring in Spurs' Gylfi Sigurdsson ... [he] could now be allowed to leave on loan for a season ... [he] fits the bill as the creative midfielder Di Canio wants, especially if Sessegnon joins West Brom.'

There isn't a lot of information there, but the rumor makes a whole lot of sense. There simply isn't going to be a place for Siggy in the Tottenham Hotspur team at the moment, but he would have plenty of opportunities to play at Sunderland. If he did well there, he might find his way back into the fold at Spurs (see: Rose, Danny).

Thoughts? Think it's legit? Like the idea?
