I came to terms with Bale leaving quite a whlile ago and I've been pleasantly surprised with how fully we've reinvested in a team of outstanding young players. Even if only half of the players pan out, I think Levy, Baldini and AVB deserve significant praise for how they've handled a tough situation. We've probably come out stronger despite the loss of a top 10 player in the world.
However, I do not find the Ozil situation to be acceptable. We have indirectly given another top 10 player in the world to our fiercest rivals. Real Madrid clearly funded the Bale purchase with the Ozil money. I know it seems like one happened after the other, but I don't buy it. I'm not a fan of conspiracy theories, but you just don't create a 40+million pound sale in 24hrs at the end of the transfer window. Le Arse and Real Madrid have been working on this agreement for quite a while.
The article above includes quite a bit of unsourced speculation, but even if it is partly true, I'm pissed. The Bale money is dirty. I know Levy, of all people in the world of football, probably appreciates the free market and all it's benefits. But we should not have sold our best player to a team that was going to turn around and sell a player arguably as good to our rivals.
I was firmly in the Levy camp a few days ago, even when we heard the whispers of a Di Maria or Ozil sale to Le Arse, as it seemed as if he was trying to delay the Bale sale to keep these players from going to our rivals in time. It turns out, he failed and now I feel far less confident about a CL spot. I am trying hard not to let the NLD result taint my outlook on the season, as I completely realize we aren't the finished article. I understand we will improve and it was only one game, but we've now lost one of the top 10 players in the world and Le Arse have gained a top 10 player. I just hope this won't be the difference between our point totals at the end of the season.
