Pochettino set for Saints stay?

Ross Kinnaird

We're not buying it quite yet, but it's an interesting rumor.

If the Metro and TEAMtalk writer Dan Brett are to be believed, Mauricio Pochettino is about to sign a contract extension with Southampton. While they're reporting it independent of each other, Metro doesn't cite a source and Brett looked to be just about the first person on the internet to drop this nugget.

If this is true, it's a blow for Tottenham Hotspur, who were clearly interested in at least interviewing Pochettino for their vacant managerial position. He's been the clear favorite for a while and many expected a formal approach this week.

But it's certainly curious that none of your usual big news-breaking and/or rumor mongering outlets -- Sky Sports, the Telegraph or the Daily Mail -- have jumped on this at all. The Mail, in particular, will jump on anything that seems to be plausible. But all rumors have to start somewhere, and it's not outside the realm of possibility that Brett and Metro beat everyone to the punch.

In any event, keep your eyes peeled. Especially for 'de Boer back in the race!' reports.
