Tottenham reportedly after Ben Davies, may already have bid

Dependent on who you believe, Spurs may or may not already be making inroads to signing a left back.

Despite the fact that Brazil's growingly dispassionate trudge towards a trophy on home soil the World Cup is still some way off its conclusion, reports in the UK press over the past 24 hours suggest new Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino isn't wasting any more time in kicking off his summer recruitment process.

The consensus now seems to be that Poch has made Swansea left-back Ben Davies his prime target- a sensible move considering how badly in need Tottenham are of some competition (or a replacement, depending on how generous you are) in that position for Danny Rose, who endured a season of ups and downs last time around. As most of you will know already, Davies has enjoyed an excellent two seasons with the club whose Academy he came up through after breaking on to the scene as a stand-in for Neil Taylor, and it's really a surprise that there hasn't been more serious talk over that time of other clubs swooping in to try and prise him away.

Exactly how far along Pochettino is in the process of getting his man is less than certain at this stage, however. The Mail is reporting that a bid of £6m has already been made; the Mirror contrastingly claims that we've opened at £8m, while the Express simply states that we're 'lining up' an offer. Regardless of who ends up being correct, though, any fee in the range of £6-8m would represent a bargain for one of the Premiership's most exciting young defenders, and we should all allow ourselves to get more than a little bit excited about this news should it develop into something more concrete.
