Harry Redknapp's first Premier League match as Queens Park Rangers manager at White Hart Lane couldn't have gone any worse. His team's new back three was exposed repeatedly, with Tottenham Hotspur putting together arguably the best performance anyone in the league has in this young season. Spurs were barely opposed in their 4-0 win.
Nacer Chadli got a surprise start and made the most of it, scoring twice. His first goal came just 12 minutes into the game, with Nabil Bentaleb doing the brunt of the work. He won the ball, then made an excellent quick pass to Emmanuel Adebayor, who chipped to the back post. Chadli chested it down, then poked the ball over Rob Green with his second touch.
QPR's best chance came in the 20th minute off a long ball over the top of the defense to Matty Phillips. Younes Kaboul was caught napping and was beat by Phillips, but the Rangers striker hit his shot well over the bar when he should have scored.
Spurs woke up after that and were thoroughly dominant from there through the scoring of their fourth goal. Christian Eriksen nearly scored a direct free kick in the 24th minute, striking the underside of the crossbar with a brilliant shot. Tottenham didn't have to wait much longer for their second, with Eric Dier scoring his second goal in as many games just six minutes later, putting a near post header into the back of the net at the end of a great run, with Erik Lamela providing the delivery.
The third goal was the best of the four, and came off a build-up that might go unmatched this year in the Premier League. Chadli's second came at the end of a 48-pass move that ended with a cross by Erik Lamela to Chadli, who was unmarked and had no problem directing a header past Green.
It took a bit for Spurs to add their fourth goal, though it wasn't for a lack of trying. After the third, the entire team stopped caring about keeping the ball and started trying through balls and long shots with incredible regularity. Adebayor netted the final goal in the 65th minute, scoring a gorgeous first time shot from the top of the box after an excellent run and square ball from Danny Rose.
QPR were the better side in the closing minutes and probably should have scored, but Spurs had the game well in the bag by that point and looked rather unconcerned. It was a dominant performance from Spurs, and an encouraging sign for the season to come.
