CFC Fantrax: Weekend Breakdown and Expansion Draft

Week 3 is in the bag and Polkaroo FC is the new king of the CFC Relegation League, and this writer thinks it's wholly deserved. Never mind that the league's 'draft winner' has scored the fewest points so far. Disregard the fact that he's the only manager who's failed to get 30 points in a week, and overlook his inability to pick a squad that actually plays. And please, don't mention Spork's voluntary adjustment of the scoring to include OGs, especially since it handed earned Polkaroo the draw. No, Polkaroo spits in the face of logic and plans on winning the league by convincing you he's shit. Skysports understands that both teams lost in a 25-25 draw.

(ed. note: Spork deserves a special mention for offering to adjust the scoring in a way that cost him his first win. We'd agreed on OGs, but it was very gentlemanly conduct.)

BSC rebounded from a week 2 loss with a solid performance, doubling up on Bravespurs 44-22 and dragging the wk. 2 leader into the loss column and 5th place overall. BSC outscoring Brave 5-0 in goals sums up the match. We all hope Bravespurs enjoyed his brief vacation as league leader, but we understand he's anxious to get back to his mayoral duties and the citizens of Wrongville. Hopefully, they'll keep him busy enough that he starts to pick his own team!

Things are looking up for Pouchers Suck as they flashed into life this week - and would've picked up their first victory - if not for some amazing performances from Smugglers FC. 2 goals from Schneiderlin and 1 & 1 from Weimann were enough to see off Levi's solid 39 pt. performance. Smugglers squeezes out a tight one, sneaking over the (border)line 41-39. Triffic lad and youth 'manager' Levi Phillip noted: "You've got be kidding me. 39 points and [we] still get beat!!!!??? Damn." Smugglers was unavailable for comment as he was busy drunk-tweeting double entAndres to Srups.

PD moved back into the win column, giving Bandit his first loss in a 42-27 competition. Sigurdsson continues to roll but that wasn't enough to stop the PDarjeeling Limited. Bandit will have to wait 'til next week to build on his bounty, but first he has a fanpost to write.

OZ was the week's standout performer and had this season's first 50+ pt. performance. His jets were fuming with 7 of 11 players getting 5 points or more. Pouchers Sack takes another kick in the self despite a solid performance.

Fun facts:

  • Pouchers Suck, they're the absolute worst
  • The leader has the fewest points (Polkaroo - 82 pts. for)
  • The last place team has faced the toughest competition (Pouchers Suck - 122 pts. against)
  • We're on pace for 26 draws this season. I predict we see less than 10 all year.
  • Pouchers Suck and Spurqueno are set for relegation

    Expansion Draft

The end of the transfer window is coming up and our expansion draft will begin Tuesday. The draft will take place in this thread. As a refresher, here is the draft order:

    1 Bandit
    2 Zen
    3 Brave
    4 Smugs
    5 Polk
    6 Spork
    7 BSC
    8 Somid
    9 Levi
    10 PD

The draft shouldn't take long. My guess is there are only going to be 2 (3 max) rounds of picks. We could stretch it out but it makes sense to get it done ASAP. All drafted players must be added by individual managers via the FA process, so I would like everyone to wait for the open FA period before adding their players. That's 12:05 Thursday. Ideally, the draft will be done before that, but if not we have the int'l break so there is plenty of extra time. So again: Add your own draft picks to your team, and do it after the draft is over and after Thursday at 12:05, whichever comes later.

There is one final issue: How the draft will run. From the look of the players, there will be 2 rounds. Having thought about all the ins and outs of using 'passing' to affect the January order, I think we should remove that. It's too disruptive. However, I also don't think someone should get to draft 4 players while a strong team only wants 1, because it allows poor teams the chance to eliminator weaknesses. So, I suggest that we decide to allow for 2 or 3 rounds of drafting and then we end the draft. My preference is 2, Since 1) we have to add via the FA list and get 2 max per week, and 2) I don't think a 3rd round will be needed. Two rounds should see 18-20 players drafted and I don't really see there being more than that, but 3 rounds works too. Here's OZ's list from a few days ago give you an idea of the draft depth:

    Eric Dier (TOT)
    Brede Hangeland (CRY)
    Facundo Ferreyra (NEW)
    Frank Lampard (MCI)
