Lots of bat country rumors have plagued Tottenham this summer. The latest is connecting us to Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu. Calhanoglu is one of the best young midfielders in the Bundesliga and would be an perfect addition to a Spurs side trying to both win the league and advance far in the UCL this season.
However this rumor is super unlikely for a couple reasons. First, Bayer are set to make a Bundesliga title push this year with a talented young squad. Next, this rumor is literally just a tiny blurb on the bottom of another article talking about Bayer buying highly sought defender Aleksandar Dragović. Also Hakan criticized the move of former teammate Son Heung-Min to Spurs when he was bought last summer. There are reports also linking him to Atletico Madrid meaning Bayer are actively shopping him or this is all just a ploy by his agent for a better contract. I’d bet the second.
But hey who knows? Maybe tomorrow more details will come out and Spurs will be in the race to sign the talent. BILD reports that the fee would be €25 million. The real question is if he would become Spurs number one option for taking FKs or would that job still belong to Christian Eriksen?
