Remember the promise from the early hours of transfer deadline day? Well, never mind about that. Sky Sources understand that Tottenham Hotspur are not going to meet Newcastle United’s valuation of Moussa Sissoko and will move on to other targets.

OK, fine. £30m is a bit of an overkill for a player who had a really nice Euros but is 27 and been pretty wildly inconsistent over his career. He’d be a nice depth signing, but I don’t think anybody wants to spend £30m for a depth guy.
I say “move on to other targets” but to be fair we don’t really know if there ARE other targets to move on to. After the (likely) signing of Pau Lopez and the (mythical) signing of Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, it’s not clear if we actually have other targets in mind or if we’ve completed all of our business.
And just because this is deadline day and things are never simple, this just came over Twitter:
France manager Didier Deschamps has just confirmed that Moussa Sissoko is in London... Spurs?

This is why we can’t have nice things.
