In what turned out to be a fairly dull encounter between two London sides, Tottenham Hotspur managed to overcome their opponents, relegation threatened Fulham by a margin of 1-0. The game saw a return to White Hart Lane for Tottenham old-boy and current Fulham captain Danny Murphy.
This has already been a very special season for Gareth Bale, and he netted in the 42nd minute of the first half after aiming a looping header past Schwarzer and into the net from a van der Vaart free kick just before the interval. Headers aren't what Bale is known for, but Spurs fans should expect more from the six foot tall wizard on the wing.
In the second half, the Tottenham back line had to make numerous defensive blocks from a Fulham onslaught of shots. Michael Dawson’s goal-line clearance from an Andy Johnson shot denied Fulham what looked like a certain goal. In the dying moments of the gam,e Aaron Lennon could have killed the game off, but his shot was wayward.
With their win, Tottenham go back up one place to fourth position in the Premier League standings, whilst Fulham remain in the relegation zone in 18th place.
