Because this wasn't already wacky enough, Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their chase for Italian international and Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi. Rumor has it that Spurs offered £35m, and their offer was turned down.
Rossi is off to a great start this season, scoring 12 goals in La Liga. This includes a game winner in yesterday's match against Espanyol, a nasty goal from a super acute angle. Rossi's quick and a great finisher, but he doesn't seem like the "lead the line" type of guy that Spurs would be looking for. Obviously, Harry Redknapp and Daniel Levy disagree if they did, indeed, make a large bid. Rossi recently signed a contract extension, so it would be very surprising to see him leave.
Spurs fans, what do you think? It seems like all of us would disagree with spending £35m or more for Rossi, but aside from financial concerns, is he a good enough player for your liking? Is he a good fit? I don't want to hear any of that "Benedict Arnold" garbage from the USMNT fans, either.
