Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill remains the subject of much transfer speculation following commentsTottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp made to the press (surprise surprise) about Cahill's availability in the January transfer window.
Cahill was the subject of a big money bid from Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Arsenal, but Bolton manager Owen Coyle deemed the bids "derisory" and the defender stayed put. Now with Bolton propping up the table after seven games it seems as though the club has little hope of holding on to the player who's contract expires this summer.
Many people said it was silly for Bolton to not sell high on Cahill in the summer. Now with the club's poor performance and the fact that Cahill could be available on a free will drive down the asking price for him. Arsenal are likely to be the big bidders as their central defense is exceptionally weak, but don't be surprised if Tottenham launch a strong bid for the 25 year-old.
I'm not sure what role Cahill would play for Spurs. I'm not convinced that he's better than Michael Dawson or even Younes Kaboul and as a result I'm opposed to spending too much money on him. However, with Ledley King being who he is and with the continued injury concerns with William Gallas it might be a good piece of business to add Cahill for the future.
