Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Carroll has turned in some stellar performances for Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League this year and it would appear that some people are starting to take notice. The 19 year-old has been called into Stuart Pierce's Young Lion's squad for the U-21 European Championships Qualification.
Tottenham fullback Adam Smith, currently on loan at MK Dons is also in the squad. The U-21 English team will be playing qualifying matches against Iceland and Belgium on November 10th and 14th respectively.
When the season began, many of us were excited to see Harry Kane play a role for Tottenham Hotspur. Unfortunately, Kane hasn't featured much and it would seam that Carroll has overtaken him as the most promising Spurs youngster. The central midfielder has played well against some top-level competition and as a result has found himself in the England squad, despite only having one previous youth cap.
Little Tom seems to be developing well and depending upon how far Spurs go in the Europa League competition could be in line for 15 or so first team appearances for Spurs this season. I do think that a loan would still be in his best interests. He played in League One for Leyton Orient last year so a loan to the Championship in January wouldn't be a bad thing for Carroll. Until then, though, hopefully he continues to impress for Spurs.
