Tottenham Hotspur Linked With January Move For Blackburn Rovers Winger

Earlier in the week Tottenham Hotspur were linked with Celtic winger James Forrest and some of us asked, what happened to Junior Hoilett? Turns out that he's still on the radar. According to the Guardian Blackburn Rovers have slapped an £18 million pricetag on the Canadian winger as both Spurs and Newcastle United trail him.

Unlike some people here, I'm not sold on Hoilett, especially not at that price. Certainly he is Premier League quality, having made nearly 60 appearances for Blackburn. At 21, Hoilett is only 3 years younger than Aaron Lennnon and his skill set isn't that much better either. I think if Tottenham are going to spend £18 million on a right winger that player had better be a clear upgrade over Lennon, like Marc Albrighton or Vladimir Weiss.

One advantage to the Hoilett signing is that he does seem comfortable on both the left and the right. He played on both flanks in Rovers' match with Tottenham, but seemed most dangerous on the right. However, if Spurs want to use inverted wingers they will probably want one with a better finishing touch than Hoilett. The best choice, in my mind, is FC Basel's Xherdan Shaqiri. I doubt he would cost £18 million, Manchester City are rumored to be in for the Swiss winger for €12 million.

What are your thoughts on the move for Hoilett? Is he really that much better, if at all, than Lennon? How do you feel about the price?
