Fulham vs. Tottenham Hotspur: Match Report, Spurs Hang On To Maintain Unbeaten Streak

I'm not sure there's much to say about this match. Tottenham Hotspur were sloppy and really didn't deserve three points and maybe not even one, but they continued to battle and scored a 3-1 victory.

Chris Baird scored an own goal for Fulham in the tenth minute after Gareth Bale rifled the ball across goal. Aaron Lennon gave Spurs a two goal cushion with a sublime run and shot just before halftime. After the half, Fulham looked much brighter and following a Younes Kaboul own goal, coming off of a Fulham set piece, things got even more nervy for the visitors. However, despite extend spells of pressure from the Cottagers and penalty shouts for both sides Spurs held on, getting a late goal from Jermaine Defoe.

The statistics tell it all in this match. 31 shots for Fulham, 13 on goal; compared with nine total shots and five on goal for Tottenham. Possession stats where much closer than one might think, Fulham had 54%, because Tottenham had almost no possession in the second half.

To be a top club you sometime have to win matches you have no business winning (see yesterday's Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers match). That's exactly what Spurs did today and that is what separates this team from last years squad. There's no doubt that Tottenham were second best today and no one associated with the team should be pleased with how they played. That said, Tottenham got the three points, they're level on points with Chelsea with a game in hand. That's what is important.
