Jermain Defoe out for Tottenham Hotspur vs. Chelsea

We're disappointed too, Jermain.
We're disappointed too, Jermain.

Well, there's one bad piece of injury news. Jermain Defoe will not be in the 18 tonight for Tottenham Hotspur to face Chelsea. We know that Rafael van der Vaart is fit and Emmanuel Adebayor is expected to start despite a nagging little injury, so Defoe was not going to start even if he was fit. However, he's in very good goal-scoring form and he's the kind of guy you love to bring off the bench when you're down or the match is tied. He's money in the last 30 minutes when he has fresh legs and defenders are getting tired.

The news came (to me, at least) via the BBC Sportsday Live ticker. If you want to see exactly what they said, scroll down to 1423.

This means that, unless we have this game well in control before the 60th minute (highly unlikely), we're going to see Roman Pavlyuchenko tonight. Hopefully he is up for the task and can hit another calm and composed finish.
