Tuesday, Tottenham Hotspur and Blackpool locked horns on a cold night at Broomfield Road in the Barclays Premier League. Blackpool have scored in every home game in the league this season and they maintained their record early, in the 18th minute. Sebestian Bassong followed DJ Campbell into the penalty area and then clumsily tumbled over Campbell, who then fell under Bassong's challenge. Reported Tottenham transfer target Charlie Adam stepped up and duly converted the penalty with aplomb.
The Seasiders soon doubled their lead just before half-time in the 44th minute through DJ Campbell. James Beattie was out on the right side of midfield and whipped in a vicious cross for his teammate Campbell to flick home. Blackpool's second goal was just reward for a lightning quick counter-attack and their endeavour since kick off. Tottenham were in a state of shock.
In the second half, Jermaine Jenas was brought on in place of Wilson Palacios. Tottenham soon began to assert themselves and test Richard Kingson in the Blackpool goal.
However, Blackpool extended their lead in the 80th minute through Brett Ormerod. Benoit Assou-Ekotto was found wanting in the Tottenham penalty area. Assou-Ekotto thought he had more time than he actually had, turned with the ball, only to find Ormerod pounce and slide the ball home. Tottenham were left in a further state of shock.
The abruptness of Blackpool's three goals pushed Tottenham's attack into a prolonged onslaught. Tottenham finally got on the score sheet through their Russian striker, Roman Pavlyuchenko in the 92nd minute. His goal bound shot took a wild deflection off and floated past Kingson.
In the end, it was Blackpool who took all the points and brought high flying Tottenham back to earth with a bump.
