The visitors entered this game without their stalwarts Gareth Bale and Luka Modric, leaving Harry Redknapp to select an unorthodox lineup for Tottenham Hotspur. However, they were the ones who took a quick lead at Ewood Park. In the 4th minute, Rafael van der Vaart found space out wide and looped in a high cross for Peter Crouch to head past former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson and into the Blackburn Rovers net.
The home side tested Heurelho Gomes throughout. In the first half, Blackburn had a couple of close chances with David Hoilett being denied by the Tottenham goalkeeper once, while David Dunn shot and missed the target narrowly, just wide of the far post on another occasion.
Aaron Lennon continued his rich vein of form, but in an unfamiliar left wing position. In the second half, Lennon embarked on a 90 yard maze of a run and passed the ball inside of the penalty area to Jermain Defoe, who could only manage a shot directly at Robinson. That miss set up a tense finale in which Gomes had to be resolute in front of a Blackburn onslaught. Gomes was called onto make saves from both Mame Biram Diouf and Morten Gamst Pedersen.
Jermaine Jenas denied a last gasp effort from Blackburn captain Christoper Samba in the penalty area to deny the home side a share of the spoils.
With this result, Blackburn will remain in 9th spot whilst their opponents Tottenham solidify 5th position in the Premier League table.
