Tottenham Hotspur and Bolton Wanderers locked horns at White Hart Lane in the Barclays Premier League in a match that featured some difficult decisions for the officials, as well as some late drama.
After what turned out to be a error strewn referee performance from Mark Clattenburg, Bolton will feel a bit hard done by. Tottenham will also feel aggrieved after being awarded a third penalty, then having it rescinded from the aforementioned referee.
However, it was Tottenham’s Dutch talisman Rafael van der Vaart who gave his side the lead in the 6th minute via the penalty spot. This after Bolton’s own talisman Kevin Davies had handled the ball. It was van der Vaart who then missed a second, albeit re-taken penalty after encroachment ruled his first effort out.
In the second half, Bolton’s new loan signing Daniel Sturridge equalised for his team in the 55th minute, this after his effort went in underneath Gomes’ body and into the Tottenham net. Further drama was to unfold, when Spurs’ "other" Croatian midfielder, Niko Kranjcar scored the winner from almost 25 yards out in the 92nd minute of stoppage time.
The hosts will be relieved more than jubilant after their nervy win at White Hart Lane. Tottenham stay 5th, whilst Bolton are in 8th place.
