William Gallas Signs Contract Extension With Tottenham Hotspur Through 2013

So, you were calling for William Gallas to get his contract extended through 2012? Well, he's got an extension through 2013! Gallas, the central defender signed on a free transfer to a one-year contract this offseason, will now be a Tottenham Hotspur player for the next two seasons. He's been a rock at the back next to Michael Dawson in the short time frame that both have actually been healthy. A lot of us have been concerned about the long term future of the team at the center back position, and while this hardly changes that, it alleviates some fears about the short term.

Gallas signing a new contract seems like a very good way to ease players like Steven Caulker and Bongani Khumalo into the first team. I really wasn't looking forward to having to throw Caulker into the fire in a league game against Manchester United when we have yet another injury crisis. In any event, I still hope we buy another central defender in the summer. I've all but written off this blog's namesake, as well as Jonathan Woodgate.
