The Dream Ticket: Tottenham Hotspur Vs. Real Madrid

Real Madrid is known to be a club with an incredible aura. It’s a club with history, identity and glamour in equal measure. It is a club that is arguably, the biggest, most popular club on the planet. Yes, Barcelona is the talk of the town, for it’s unique brand of football but it is Real Madrid that have dominated in the UEFA Champions League / European Cup. Our beloved Tottenham Hotspur will face off against Real Madrid, with the faint hope of progressing to the Semi-Final’s of the UEFA Champions League.

There’s a slight romantic feel to this game, what with the most successful club in European football entering the fortress of White Hart Lane. Football neutrals (especially today) often forget that Tottenham was the first British club to win a European trophy, that being the European Cup Winners Cup. Our decorated history dictates that we belong in such esteemed company, with the likes of Real Madrid and the recently vanquished AC Milan. We last reached the European Cup Semi-Finals in 1962 when we lost to Benfica. I hope the players and backroom staff do their utmost to ensure our progression into the final four of this inception of the European Cup. Against Real Madrid, we can test ourselves not only as a football team but as a football club. Toe to toe with the real heavyweight of club football in our own backyard.

Tickets for both fixtures against Real Madrid were like goldust and sold out within hours. Despite our heartbreaking 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid last week in the first leg of our UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final, I doubt there’s one Tottenham Hotspur fan alive who wouldn’t want to be in attendance at White Hart Lane for the return leg.
 
There’s a slight chance that our esteemed guests could conceivably be complacent and take their eye off the ball, what with their Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona on the horizon as well as them possibly thinking that they have this upcoming tie with little Tottenham all sewn up.
 
As Harry Redknapp himself opined, ‘It’s a dream tie’. So it is. It is indeed. Tottenham Hotspur fans the world over are awaiting the return leg at White Hart Lane with interest. The stage is set. Let’s grab that Semi-Final berth (however unlikely) and after that, win the damn thing in a place called Wembley.
