Tottenham Hotspur and West Brom clashed at White Hart Lane in a game that had implications at both ends of the Premier League table. Champions League chasing Tottenham and relegation bound West Brom, provided an entertaining encounter.
Tottenham got off to their typical slipshod start and conceded after only 5 minutes when Peter Odemwingie put the away side ahead to silence the home fans and give shellshock to the home side too. Tottenham’s fans didn’t have too long for a response from their team. Roman Pavlyuchenko received Tom Huddlestone’s errant pass and then smacked the ball home after 27 minutes.
After the interval, in the 66th minute, Jermaine Defoe finally found his goal scoring touch. He collected the ball at least 35 yards away from goal and hit the ball past Scott Carson flying hand. White Hart Lane erupted. However, West Brom substitute Simon Cox had other ideas. He scored a spectacular effort of his own. After taking the ball on the left hand side of Tottenham’s goal, he drove inside and put the ball in the top corner in the 81st minute. Cue White Hart Lane silence. The home side appeared out on their feet and were unable to respond with a winner.
