Spurs Ladies Win Promotion

I bet you didn't even know Tottenham Hostpur had a women's team. Well, they do and they just won the South East Combination Women's Football League, which is apparently the third tier of the women's professional football pyramid. If the ladies win promotion three more times they'll be playing in the FA Women's Super League!

Yes, three more promotions, because apparently the second tier of the women's pyramid has two levels. Kind of like the conference level in the men's pyramid. The fact that there's a women's pyramid at all in English football is mind-blowing, isn't it? There's even a UEFA Women's Champions League! I can't believe I didn't know about these things!

There are 8 teams in the FA WSL, though they've yet to actually play a season. The league was supposed to begin in 2010, but was delayed a year because of the global economic problems. The WSL replaces the Women's Premiership as the top league in English women's football. Arsenal's women won the last 7 league titles, before moving to the WSL. And in case you were curious, the women's Champions League is dominated by German clubs. Frankfurt has won it three times.

Returning to the Spurs ladies, they've now got the league title wrapped up thanks to a record of 17 wins and 1 draw in 21 games. The club lead second place Norwich City by ten points with three games remaining for Norwich, who have a game in hand over Tottenham. So the Tottenham Ladies already have one trophy, but could earn another as they still face a League Cup semifinal tie with Luton Town later this month. Good luck ladies! Come on you Lady Spurs!
