Tottenham Hotspur traveled to Eastlands still hoping that they could claim fourth spot from under the noses of their hosts, Manchester City. This season’s version of the UEFA Champions League / fourth Place Play-Off was a damp squib, especially when compared to last seasons keenly fought match.

Tottenham were missing current PFA Player of the Year Gareth Bale after confirmation that his ankle injury put him out for the remainder of Spurs’ games. However, the visitors started brightly, with Vedran Corluka and Aaron Lennon combining well down the right. Luka Modric somehow missed a glorious chance on the half hour mark. Despite this, Manchester City took the lead through a Peter Crouch own goal in the 31st minute.

In the second half, Tottenham bossed long periods of the game. Makeshift left-back Danny Rose was a particular bright spot. That said, Tottenham were unable to capitalise on their territorial domination. Carlos Tevez made his return from injury and should’ve done better with his chance in the dying seconds of the game. Nevertheless, Manchester City will be elated to have tied up 4th spot ahead of their FA Cup final with Stoke City. Tottenham have work to do.
