This holiday thing has me all screwed up. Here I am sitting at work doing things for the site when I should be actually working and none of those things is Transfer Rumor Tuesday. I know you're all terribly broken up about it and for that I apologize. I'll try to make this weeks rumors extra awesome to make up for the delay.
Fortunately, it's been a slow week and there's not too much new to report. So no one has missed to much or at least you haven't missed anything that we haven't already posted about. Enjoy!
#WeNeedAStriker: Kevin already posted about the club's alleged bid for Giuseppe Rossi, but that's not what I'm talking about. Rumors persist that Tottenham Hotspur have made a bid for Napoli strike Ezequiel Lavezzi. The club have come out and denied the rumor. And why wouldn't they? Napoli seem like a club that are going places. Marek Hamsik, Edinson Cavani, et al. have brought the team to the Champions League and it doesn't make any sense to start selling them. That said, he's a support striker and not really the type of player we need.
#WeNeedAStriker Part II: Harry Redknapp certainly loves old players with experience. It seems like Tottenham along with quite a few other clubs are on the trail of German striker Miroslav Klose. The striker has scored more than 160 career club goals (and another 61 for the German national team). Klose is 32 and would be available on a free transfer. For the price he's certainly a good buy, but I don't know if he's really that much better of an option than Roman Pavlyuchenko?
We Want Old Strikers, But Young Goalkeepers?: In the past week Spurs have been linked strongly with two different young goalkeepers. The first of which should be a familiar name to most of you: Stoke City's Asmir Begovic. Harry seems to have an eye on the young keeper who Spurs made £1 million on (despite his never having played for us). Remember that? Also, Tottenham are looking at Thibaut Courtois who is 19 and plays for Belgian side Genk. A 19 year old keeper? I don't like the sound of that.
Player We're Not Linked With But Should Be: Since not much has happened this week it should be easy for me to come up with a player that we should be linked with. This is a lot more fun now that we know which clubs have been relegated from their respective leagues, especially with the likes of Monaco, Sampdoria, and Deportivo La Coruña making the drop. There are lots of good players on those teams like Andres Guardado, Angelo Palombo, and Park Chu-Young, but the player I would want most is Sampdoria's Jonathan Biabiany. You might remember him from Inter Milan, he scored against Spurs in the Champions League. The speedy youngster plays both right wing and striker. I'd take him on my team.
Player We're Actually Going to Sign...This Week: You're in luck. I'm going to give you two for the price of one in this section. It looks pretty much locked up that Brad Friedel will be joining Tottenham Hotspur to compete for the top goalkeeping position. Also, it appears that we're the only club bidding for Leandro Damiao and Sandro has backed the young Brazilian to succeed. These would be two good signings (ok Leandro would be GREAT). Let's get these wrapped up boys!
