England U-21 manager Stuart Pearce is only allowed to take 23 players to the European U-21 Championships this summer, but he's released a provisional roster with 40 players, three of which are under contract with Tottenham Hotspur. Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, and Kyle Naughton have all been named in the provisional squad. Pearce will announce the final squad on June 1st.
If I had to guess, I'd say that Walker and Naughton make the cut, while Rose does not. The team is not deep when it comes to guys getting regular first team football in defense, but the midfield is much more stacked. Walker has made 28 combined appearances this season with QPR and Aston Villa, while Naughton was named to the PFA Championship Team of the Season for his performances with Leicester City.
The midfield group isn't quite as deep as the forwards, though, and it's lacking in a true left winger outside of Rose. For that reason alone, he might make the team despite not being one of the 23 most accomplished players on the roster. The England U-21s play a warm-up friendly against Norway on June 5th, and they open the tournament on June 12th against Spain.
