Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced the signing of former FC Barcelona academy player Cristian Ceballos. Ceballos, 18, is an attacking midfielder/forward that has been reportedly trialing with the side, garnering interest among other Premiership sides. The transfer is a free, after Ceballos left the Barcelona despite high expectations. Brought in as an 11 year old with comparisons to Ronaldinho, Ceballos seemed never able to live up to the expectations brought upon him.
Still, Ceballos has an impressive highlight reel, one of which you can check here:
In the immediate future, Ceballos is of an age where he needs regular playing time, making it unlikely he stays with the first team this season. Expect a loan out to a Championship side to gain experience, or perhaps back to Spain if they want him to mature more before making the adjustment to the English game. Only time will tell if he can live up to his high expectations or just become another Barca product that could not cut it at the highest level.
