Well, that's what you get for playing hardball, Mr. Levy. After a few weeks of BS and a couple of rejected transfer bids from Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Luka Modric has finally handed in a transfer request. After Luka's public comments about wanting to leave and Spurs rejecting the £27 million bid, we had to know this was coming sooner or later.
Really, it's not shocking. Modric was always going to want Champions League football. When he said that he would play through his contract and that he wouldn't hand in a transfer request, he was just doing what all footballers do when they want to leave their club but they want to be polite about it. He probably assumed that if he said the right things but told Levy that he wanted to go, Spurs would negotiate in good faith with a club to get the most amount of money for him. That didn't happen. Now, he's taking drastic measures.
We'll obviously have more on this as more details come out and we collect our thoughts, but I thought I'd get you guys the basic news ASAP.
