Tottenham right back Nathan Byrne has signed on for a season-long with League 1 side AFC Bournemouth according to reports from the BBC. Byrne, 19, joined the professional ranks of Tottenham a year ago. He's coming off a February loan with fellow League 1 side Brentford, where the young professional impressed in 11 appearances for the club.
While still remaining in League 1, Byrne should experience a rise in class at his new club. While Brentford is a midtable side in League 1, Brentford qualified for the League 1 playoffs in the 2010-11 season and seem to be positioning themselves for a major push for promotion this season. Interestingly, Byrne should walk right into the spot of fellow Tottenham youngster Adam Smith, who starred in 39 league appearances for the League 1 side last season.
Byrne's loan is representative of an impressive crop of young English right backs Tottenham has amassed on the squad. Kyle Walker is pushing for a starting spot this season, Kyle Naughton will be playing premiership football with Norwich City, Adam Smith is impressing with the English U-20s and is likely bound for a strong Championship loan, and now Byrne is continuing to break through. Let's hope this pipeline of talent continues for the Lilywhites.
