Manchester United Defense In Shambles Ahead Of Tottenham's Old Trafford Visit

It's no secret that Tottenham have not been able to get results at Old Trafford. We've seen us go there and fail enough times to know this, either by getting demolished or by going ahead only to go all Spurs on ourselves and blow it. If Spurs are ever to go to Old Trafford and get a win though, it might be on Monday. While Spurs were off for the week after riots postponed their match against Everton, United were playing West Brom and seeing their two healthy defenders go down with injuries.

Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand both were subbed out in United's opening match of the season with injuries and after the match Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that Ferdinand would miss six weeks with a hamstring injury, while Vidic will be out two weeks with a calf injury. Just one match into the season and the Red Devils may be without their entire starting defense.

Before the match started, Rafael was ruled out for 10 weeks with a dislocated shoulder. Right back, out. Patrice Evra was kept out of the opening match with a knee injury he picked up in the Community Shield. Left back, out. Now Vidic and Ferdinand are both set to miss time. Center backs, out. Evra could be back in time for Monday's match, but at the very least, Spurs will get a United defense with only one first choice player. Add in Chicharito, who remains out with a concussion and the Red Devils are running out of players.

Nobody really roots for injuries so we won't call it a good thing that United are without their defense, but there is definitely a silver lining to all of this. Tottenham might be able to actually get some points up in Manchester. Okay, deep breaths. We're still Spurs so we can very well screw it up. We still could have Mark Clattenburg with the whistle. Lots of things can happen and even without all of their injured players, the Red Devils have plenty of talent. That said, there is an opening now.
