Sky Sports first reported this possible move earlier this morning. Iago Falque, formerly of Barcelona and currently of Juventus has flown to London this morning for a medical with Tottenham Hotspur. The 21 year-old Spaniard seems to be well down the pecking order at Juventus and a loan move makes sense, but a loan to Spurs?
The winger has never played a senior level game for any of his clubs. He played a game for Barcelona's B-team and 36 more on loan with Villareal's B-team. If Wikipedia is to be believed (and why wouldn't it be?) the winger has already completed his season-long loan move to White Hart Lane.
This move makes absolutely zero sense to me, but the fact that it is completely out of left field seems to make quite a bit of sense. Given Spurs recent signings the deal for Iago, if it includes an agreed upon transfer fee, could be a smart business sense. However, unlike the signings of Souleymane Coulibaly and Cristian Ceballos who are both 18 or under Iago is 21 and still hasn't played a first team game at any level.
What are your thoughts on this potential move? Has anyone seen him play or at least bought him in football manager? Anyone know anything?
UPDATE: This move is now official according to Tottenham Hotspur's official site. The deal is a season-long loan. No further details were provided. Also his name is apparently Yago.
