Roman Pavlyuchenko Demands To Leave Tottenham Hotspur

Normally we mock anything and everything that the Daily Mail publishes, but this is a special circumstance. This is the end of the transfer window! This article actually has quotes in it and they're from Roman Pavlyuchenko himself, so this could be for real, right? Ok maybe not, but like I said, special circumstances.

Apparently the arrival of Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has Pavlyuchenko worried about his place with Tottenham Hotspur. The Russian striker is now, allegedly, looking for a way out. The Russian striker believes that Sunderland would be interested in bringing him in, which is odd because Peter Crouch has been linked with a move there.

As has been mentioned on this site before, the best chance to move Pavlyuchenko is probably in January when the Russian Premier League begins their Championship Playoff. The sticking point may be Spurs' asking price for Pavlyuchenko. The Daily Fail believes that most Russian clubs may be priced out of a move for the striker, but a desire for a Champions League place may change that.

Personally, I'm inclined to keep Pavlyuchenko, at least until January. I think he makes sense both as back-up to Adebayor and to Jermain Defoe. Pavlyuchenko is perhaps the most versatile striker on Tottenham's roster and keeping him around until a suitable replacement can be found is a good idea. That said if some club were to make a bid in excess of £15 million for him I would gladly part ways with him.
