It appeared as if everything regarding Tottenham Hotspur on transfer deadline day was sensible and expected. Wilson Palacios, Alan Hutton and Jermaine Jenas were all on the way out. Roman Pavlyuchenko was staying and Peter Crouch was edging towards a move. The only player coming in for sure was Scott Parker and the club continued to talk with Bolton about Gary Cahill. Not a big deal and very manageable, but then Sky Sports News had to drop a bomb on us, saying that Spurs were in on a big name player.
This being transfer deadline day where nothing can be easy, Sky Sports did not tell us the name of the player. They said they didn't even know the name of the player or have any information on who it could possibly be. All they said was that they knew that there was a big, headline grabbing move for the club that would go up to the deadline. THANKS A LOT SKY!
The problem with this report, well there are a lot of problems with the report. The first is that they have absolutely not information to actually report. Who's the player? How big is a big move? Is it someone we've been linked to before. THEY DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO REPORT.
Also, the reporter said he got it from one person. It wasn't confirmed by a second person and it was an anonymous source. What is that supposed to mean then? He could be making it up.
Lastly, it's believable. He could be completely making it up, but it's believable because of the way Tottenham captured Rafael van der Vaart at the deadline last year. This could be VdV 2.0 so we're inclined to believe it even if it's a crap report with no actual information.
You know what would be nice, Sky? If you didn't say things just because you can. It's random mouth diarrhea. You're very much like Harry Redknapp now. Do us all a favor and shut up until you have something to actually report...like the player's name!
