Vedran Corluka Finally Returns From Injury

Tottenham Hotspur defender Vedran Corluka returned to match action today in a Spurs XI friendly at Spurs Lodge against Celtic's reserves/academy. The Croatian defender has made only one Premier League appearance this season for Spurs and his return to full health would certainly be an asset to manager Harry Redknapp.

Corluka played only one half of football in his return to action, but, given that Michael Dawson played 3 games in the span of 10 days immediately following his return from injury, I can't imagine that Charlie is too far away from a return to first team action. The performances of Kyle Walker may find Corluka on the bench, but at some point Spurs will need to rest Walker and Charlie is the perfect player to spell the young Englishman at right back and also provide cover in central defense and midfield.

Corluka may not be the quickest fullback in the world, but he has always displayed an excellent understanding on the right wing with Aaron Lennon and, in my opinion, he is one of the best crossers on the team. In fact, in the today's reserve match Corluka's cross set up one of John Bostock's two goals. Charlie has been, at times, linked with a move away from White Hart Lane, but I can't see that happening at the moment. For now we should be glad to welcome him back into the squad and hope that other players are hot on his heels in terms of recovering from injury.
